Abstract

750,403. Motor vehicle driving gear. WILSON, A. C., RODGER, B. L., SETTERING- TON, D. W., GAYE, F., and SCHNITZER, T. April 29, 1954 [Feb. 11, 1953], No. 3806/53. Classes 79 (2) and 79 (4). In a vehicle wheel mounting structure pairs of driving wheels 1 are carried on oscillatable beams 2 which are pivotally mounted on a common driving axle supporting member 3 so constructed and arranged as to surround or embrace the beams 2, each of which is mounted in bearings 6, 7 on opposite sides thereof. As shown, the wheel 1 is provided with driving hubs 25 secured to the ends 30 of driving spindles 24 arranged in casings 28, on which the hubs are rotatably mounted and which are secured to the ends of the beams 2. The beams enclose chains 16, the driven sprockets 22 of which are connected by epicyclic reduction gears 26 to the driving spindles 24, and the driving sprockets 21 of which are connected by a shaft 19 to driven gears 18. The shafts 19 are mounted in a casing 32 pivotally mounted about the axis of a gear 17 meshing with the gears 18, the chains 16 being tensioned by means of a rod 33 secured at one end to the casing 32 and adjustably connected by lock nuts 34 to the beam 2. The gears 17 are carried by output shafts 12 of a differential gear 13 enclosed in a casing 15 arranged in a central opening in the member 3.
