Abstract

681,325. Road rollers. ETABLISSEMENTS RICHIER. Aug. 28, 1950 [Aug. 29, 1949], No. 21231/50. Class 6(i) A self-propelled pneumatictyred road-roller has a steerable front wheel-set with an odd number of pneumatic - tyred wheels and a rear driving wheelset with an even number of such wheels which are mounted in pairs, Fig. 10, a stirrup may be E<SP>2</SP> pivoted to the main frame. The drive from the motor M passes through change-speed gearing B and differential gears F<SP>1</SP>, the final drive being through bevel gears I<SP>1</SP>, mounted in oiltight casings carried in trunnions t<SP>1</SP>, t<SP>2</SP> on the stirrup ends. Where there are several wheel pairs (Fig. 10) a stirrup may be sub-divided into several parts E', E<SP>2</SP>, E<SP>3</SP> pivoted together at a and b and separately pivoted to the frame T at P<SP>1</SP>, P<SP>2</SP> . The front wheel-set, Fig. 6, comprises a stirrup pivoted at H to a fork swivelly mounted in a bearing P on the main frame T. The wheels are mounted 'on axles pivoted, together at m, n, and to the stirrup at l, p. The distances between the pivots and wheel centres are chosen to produce uniform loading, and the tracks of the front wheels are staggered in relation to those at the rear.
