Abstract

1,171,290. Vehicle wheel arrangements. W. M. EVANS. 27 Sept., 1968, No. 46009/68. Heading B7H. In a motor vehicle comprising a chassis 1, a pair of laterally opposed driving wheels 5 midway along the vehicle and single steerable wheels 7, 9 at the front and rear of the vehicle on the vehicle longitudinal axis, the front and lateral wheels only are braked and the centre of mass of the laden vehicle is arranged at a point on the longitudinal axis such that on maximum braking 90% at least of the mass is borne by the three braked wheels 7, 5 and 5. The wheels 5 are on swing axles driven from a differential gear in unit with the engine and gear-box which is disposed at the centre of the vehicle.
