Abstract

A streptomycin salt such as the sulphate is stabilized by admixture with a salt of sulphurous acid and an addition product of an aldehyde with a salt of sulphurous acid or of hydrosulphurous acid. Specified are sodium and potassium bisulphites and sodium and potassium metabisulphites and sodium formaldehyde sulphoxylate. Preferred is a mixture of sodium metabisulphite and sodium formaldehyde sulphoxylate. The solids may be ground together in the dry state or dissolved in water, the solution so formed being used as such or e.g. freeze-dried to form the stabilized solid. The aqueous solutions may be sterilized by heating to 120 DEG C. for 1 hour. Each of the stabilizers may be used in proportions of 0.05 to 1.0 per cent of the aqueous solution, which may be adjusted to pH 3 to 7 and preferably pH 5. Buffers such as citrate, acetate or phosphate may be present. Specification 684,459 is referred to.ALSO:A streptomycin salt such as the sulphate is stabilised by admixture with a salt of sulphurous acid and an addition product of an aldehyde with a salt of sulphurous acid. Preferred is a mixture of sodium metabisulphite and sodium formaldehyde sulphoxylate. The aqueous solutions may be sterilised by heating to 120 DEG C. for 1 hour. Each of the stabilisers may be used in proportions of 0,05 to 1,0 per cent of the aqueous solution which may be adjusted to pH3 to 7 and preferably pH 5,0. Buffers such as citrate, acetate or phosphate may be present. Specification 684,459 is referred to.
