Class 92 The breech casing of a submachine gun with its magazine hopper 1 and hand grip 2 is divided longitudinally about a vertical centre plane, the two halves 3, 3<SP>1</SP> being hinged at 17 at their rear ends and having their front ends fitted with the halves of a block 20, the latter forming a bearing for the rear end of the barrel 22 which is locked in position by a nut 24 screwed on to a forward extension of the block 20. In the construction shown the barrel has a flange 23, and is formed with a conical surface 26 which is engaged by forwardly extending flaps 25 of the nut 24. The half 3 of the breech casing has secured to it a channel 4 fitted with pivot pins for the trigger 10, sear 11, safety device 12, and magazine holder 13, and the upper surface of the channel forms a guide for the breech-block 5. The breech-block can be retracted by a channel-section plate 30 riveted to a pin 28 which passes through a slot 29 in the breeck casing and into the breech-block where it is held by the coned head 32 of a spring-pressed member 33. This member may, as shown, form the front portion of a telescopic unit 33, 34, acted upon by the return spring 35. A plate 38 riveted on the end of the part 34 rests against the rear wall and side walls of the casing and also on the top of the channel 4.
