Abstract

748,476. Marking woven textile materials. NORWOOD, W. Oct. 13, 1954 [Nov. 17, 1953], No. 31813/53. Class 73. In marking the selvedges of woven piece goods with Trade Marks or "Made in England," a length of cloth is woven as a series of side-by-side integral strips, each of which has woven into it a series of the markings to be displayed, the cloth is then coated on its rear face with thermoplastic adhesive and is finally slit longitudinally into individual strips which are affixed to the selvedges of the woven piece goods by means of pressure and/or heat. The affixing may be done. in a machine resembling .a sewing machine but having a hot presser foot instead of a needle and stitching may be used to supplement the adhesive. It may be so arranged that the combined thickness of the strip and selvedge is equal to the thickness of the body of the woven piece goods.
