Abstract

The tendency of textile materials composed of synthetic polymeric substances or of cellulose acetate to accumulate an electric charge is reduced by treating them with an organic polyisocyanate and a polyethenoxy compound containing at least two hydroxyl groups. Treatment with the two reagents may be effected simultaneously or in either order and, if desired, the reagents may be partially interacted before application. Treatment may be effected in the presence of an inert solvent such as ethyl acetate, acetone, ethylene dichloride or benzene, and reaction may be completed on the fibre by heating at, for example, 100-150 DEG C. Specified polyisocyanates are ethylene-, hexamethylene-, dicyclohexyl methane-, m-phenylene-, and toluylene-2 : 4- diisocyanates toluene-2 : 4 : 6- and triphenylmethane-4 : 41 : 411-triisocyanates, polyisocyanate adducts and polyisocyanate reaction products with compounds containing reactive methylene groups such as acetoacetic esters or with phenyl urethanes. Specified polyethenoxy compounds are polyethylene glycols and condensation products of glycerol with ethylene oxide or fatty acid monoesters of such condensation products. Specified synthetic polymeric fibres are those of nylon and linear polyesters. Examples are given.
