Abstract
747,788. Valves; exhaust systems. SOC ANON. A. SAURER. Jan. 19, 1954 [March. 6, 1953], No. 1565/54. Classes 7(2) and 7(6)- A rotary exhaust valve 12 controlling the exhaust ports 3 of a twostroke engine is positioned within an exhaust manifold 6 on the side of the manifold adjacent the cylinder and the joining surface 5 between the manifold 6 and cylinder casing 1 is arranged so that, in a cross-section at right angles to the axis of the valve through the outlet 26 from the cylinder casing to the exhaust manifold, the joining surface 5 is, in the region of the said outlet, situated closer to the interior of the cylinder than anywhere else along the joint 5. As shown, the surface 5 is in the shape of a portion of a cylinder and the manifold 6 is held in position thereon by a stop 11 and clamp 9, but in modifications the surface 5 is in the shape of a portion of a cylinder of elliptical cross-section, or V-shaped, or trapezoidal.
