A glass composition consists of vanadium pentoxide together with the dioxide of tellurium or of germanium and substantially no other constituent. The vanadium pentoxide constituent may range from 5 to 75 per cent weight when the other constituent is germanium and from 10 to 60 per cent weight when the other constituent is tellurium, Specification 744,947 is referred to.
