Abstract

740,783. Door-operating appliances. ROWLEY, Ltd., W. July 20, 1954 [Aug. 12, 1953], No. 22209/53. Class 65 (1). A closing and check device, shown in vertical section, comprises a body part 4 with a cylindrical bore parallel with the base of the body and containing a check piston 6, a spindle 11 perpendicular to the axis of the bore and connected to the piston by a crank and link, a helical spring 15 bent into circular form and contained in a rotatable housing 16 around the spindle 11, with an abutment 17 on the housing and an abutment 14a on the body part 4 both arranged between the ends of the spring, and an actuating lever 19 attached to the spindle and adjustably connected to the housing 16. In the form shown the lever has a tail carrying a pin 20 which can be engaged with any of a circular series of holes in the housing; the lever stands vertical when the door is closed, and is connected to the door (or to the frame if the device is on the door) by a link which is preferably adjustable in length. The check piston 6 has a non-return valve in it, and a bore in the wall of the cylinder connects two ports 8 to allow the flow of liquid past the piston under the control of a valve adjusted by a screw 9.
