Abstract

738,651. Fifth - wheel couplings. SCAMMELL LORRIES, Ltd. June 1, 1953 [March 20, 1952], No. 7216/52. Class 103 (5). To retain a trailer in coupled relation to the tractor the trailer rollers 12 are engaged by a double hook 11 pivoted on a cross-shaft 36 on the tractor and having an extension 37 to which is connected a retaining spring 13 and a roller 44. To effect uncoupling a pneumaticallyoperated wedge member 48 acting against the fixed roller 46 rotates the hook 11 against the action of its retaining spring 13.
