Abstract
683,861. Vehicle couplings. SUTHERLAND, I. J. May 10, 1951 [March 6, 1951], No. 5370/51. Class 103 (v). To increase the load on the rear wheels of a tractor in a tractor-trailer combination a resilient link 3, 5 and a rigid framework D is used in conjunction with the normal tow-bar connection. The framework D is secured to the rear end of the tractor by links 7, 9 which may form part of the normal power-lift mechanism whilst the lug-plate 20, to which the tension springs 3 are secured, may be attached to the tow-bar adjacent its connection with the trailer. The tension of springs 3 is adjustable by sliding over the link 5, the member 16 to which the upper end of the springs 3 are secured, 16 being retained in position by the cross-pin 23. In use, when the rear of the tractor lifts the tension of springs 3 increases and therefore increases the load on the rear of the tractor.
