Abstract
253,568. Dewing, L. Feb. 17, 1925. Couplings for tractors. - In tractor. trailer combinations spring means are provided for transferring part of the load from the front wheels of the trailer to the rear wheels of the tractor. The simplest form is shown in Fig. 4. A spring 17 is pivoted to the draw-bar h. By turning a wheel A on a screw 16 the weight on the leaf springs d is transferred to the spring 17 and thence by the bar h to the tractor.. In another form, Fig. 2, a double leaf spring n is suspended on shackles p, o from a nut q and the turntable c. The springs n are connected with the trailer by a buckle m. The rotation of the screw r has the same effect as in Fig. 4. In all cases the rear ends of the springs d are fixed and the front ends free to slide.
