Abstract

726,423. Dashpots. WARMOES, J. J., and CLOSKIN, L. A. A. J. May 15, 1952 [June 16, 1951], No. 12360/52. Class 108 (3). [Also in Group XXXVII] The invention relates to mechanism for transmitting movement of one moving member 2 to a second member 7, which it is desired to move in the same direction, with a delay determined by the magnitude of either the movement or the force. According to the invention, the mechanism comprises a spring 13 interposed between the two members 2, 7, a piston 6 attached to the member 7 and working in a cylinder 8 which is substantially air-tight, so that on initial movement of the member 2, movement of the member 7 is restrained by vacuum in the cylinder 8, until the force built up in the spring 13 is sufficient to move the piston away from the closed end of the cylinder 8 to a point where it allows air to enter the cylinder. In the construction shown, a slot 10 is formed in the wall of the cylinder 10. The vacuum which develops in the cylinder 8 is broken when the top edge of the piston reaches the top end of the slot 10. The force applied to the member 2 is then fully applied to the piston rod 7 which may transmit it to a desired member either directly or through a mechanical or electrical relay.
