Abstract

775,866. Resilient buffers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 19, 1955 [May 21, 1954], No. 15022/54. Class 108(3). A resilient buffer comprises a stack of resilient members 1 interleaved with non-resilient members 2, which include apertures or recesses on at least one surface in contact with an adjacent member of the resilient material. On compression, the resilient material is displaceable into the apertures or recesses thus absorbing energy. As shown, the resilient members 1 are of rubber, and the non-resilient members are of perforated sheet metal. The members 2 may alternatively be formed of expanded metal. The members 1, 2 are mounted on bolts 5 between a base member 4 and a pressure plate 3 which is adapted to be engaged by a movable member 8, the movement of which it is intended to buffer. The invention is applicable to the circuit-breaker mechanism described in Specification 775,867 [Group XXXVII].
