Abstract
722,798. Magnetic separators. EARNSHAW, A. Nov. 26, 1951 [Nov. 25, 1950], No. 28873/50. Class 117. A magnet bar for use in a textile waste-opening or other textile fibre processing machine comprises a series of permanent horseshoe magnets e secured by their crown portions to the underside of a bar a adapted to extend across the width of the machine, the arrangement being such that the poles of the magnets alternate continuously along the bar and provide a magnetic field between the legs of each magnet and between opposed legs of adjacent magnets. The part g of the bar may be of non-magnetic material, and its position relative to the pins f of the rollers may be adjusted by using any of the holes a<SP>2</SP> for its mounting, and by adjustment of the bolt d, the shaft b being slidable in an open slot in the bracket c. The bar may be thus allowed to rock about the shaft b to allow any large tuft of material to pass. In the treatment of fragile webs of fibres a plastic shield may be arranged to cover the magnet poles to present a smooth surface and prevent the material being drawn into the spaces between the poles.
