Abstract
718,317. Valves. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. June 22, 1953 [June 20, 1952], No. 15632/52. Class 135. [Also in Group XXVIII] A connection for use in a fluid flow line comprises a first connector member 11 provided with a valve seat 18 and valve closure member 21 carried by a stem 20, and a second connector member 31 provided with a valve seat 40 and valve closure member 38 carried by a threaded stem 36 ; and, when the connector members 13, 31 are brought together, stem 20 directly or indirectly connects with stem 36 so that both closure members can be actuated by stem 20. Stem 36 has a square head which engages in a recess in the closure member 38, and closure member 21 has a depending key 26 which engages in a keyway in closure member 38. The exposed end of stem 20 carries an operating wheel 22 and it is also threaded to take a nut 23 provided with an operating wheel 24. To open the valves, nut 23 is loosened and handwheel 22 rotated. Reversal of the handwheel allows the valves to close and subsequent tightening of nut 23 forces closure member 21 firmly on to its seat. Connector 11 is forced into and held in a screwed sleeve 42 in connector 31 by means of a nut 15.
