Abstract
727,093. Valves. EICH, H. March 2, 1953 [March 1, 1952], No. 5792/53. Class 135. A valve device for connecting pipe lines, reduction valves &c. to fluid pressure containers such as steel gas cylinders comprises a housing 1 adapted to be screwed into the container by means of a conical threaded part 2 and having a bore 10, the outlet 8 of which is closed by a conical member 3 loosely mounted in a cap 11 when the cap is screwed on to the housing, the inlet 14 of the bore providing a seat for an auxiliary shut-off member such as the ball 4 adapted to be closed against a spring by the rush of fluid from the container when the cap 11 is loosened or removed. The cap 11 can be screwed on a hollow spigot 12 when not in use. A groove 9 across the thread 7 permits the escape of fluid once the cone 3 is unseated. The ball valve 4 which may be of stainless steel is carried in a removable extension 6 of the housing and the spring 5 acts on the ball through a flanged guide-ring 20. Leakage past the ball gradually equalizes the pressures on opposite sides of the ball after the connection to the pipe line or reducing valve is made good, whereupon the valve 4 re-opens. The housing 3 may be of bronze or an alloy known under the Registered Trade Mark " Delta."
