Abstract
717,829. Electrically heated melting pots. BADER, K. E. Feb. 20, 1952, [Feb. 23, 1951.] No. 4450/51. Class 39 (3). Heaters for metalmelting crucibles of linecomposing machines comprise several electric heating elements 4, each having a resistance wire 4 on the axis of a tubular refractory sheath containing an insulator such as magnesium oxide, the elements 4 being housed in removable open-topped metal pockets 1 located in the metal melting crucible so as to be partly immersed with the open tops of the pockets above the surface of the metal 2. The elements have sheaths of heat-resisting metal and are bent into loops and flattened to fit the pockets. The loops of the elements are entirely below the surface of the metal 2. The upwardly extending inactive ends of the elements are threaded to receive electric connections. The elements 4, each in a separate steel pocket 1, curved to fit against the inner wall of the crucible and supported by a frame fitted to the top of the crucible, are connected in parallel. The heating of the crucible is controlled by thermostats as described in Specification 652,067, [Group XXXV]. Specifications 199,332 and 306,882, [both in Class 39 (iii)], also are referred to.
