Class 78 (1) Bottles are fed by a moving charging table in upright position and guided in rows to a loading table having tracks on to which the bottles are turned over and within which they are conveyed to a washing machine by transverse driving members, the tracks having stops for stopping the mass of approaching bottles, and a stationary table is interposed between the charging table and the stops and is inclined towards the stops to form a downwardly sloping continuation of the charging table whereby when the bottles reach the stops they are inclined towards the stops to assist turning by the driving members. As shown, bottles 12 are conveyed by a belt 16 in rows formed between partitions such as 24 towards a loading table 14 provided with grooves 26 along which the bottles are subsequently propelled with their mouths forward by transverse bars 32 carried between a pair of endless chains 34. The bottles are transferred to the grooves 26 by a table 22 forming a continuation of the conveying surface of the belt 16, which table slopes downwardly to a transverse series of stops 28 at the front of the table 14 having grooves corresponding to the grooves 26 but deeper, and a base 30 in line with table 22. The bottles thus come to rest in contacting relationship with a row of bottles against the stops 28 ready for removal by one of the bars 32. The bars 32 are arranged to rise between the table 22 and the stops 28 so as to contact the bases of the bottles on the side of their centre-lines remote from the stops whereby are bottles are turned into the grooves 26 and conveyed therealong to the washing machine.
