Abstract
711,974. Endless conveyers. MAVOR & COULSON, Ltd. Oct. 22, 1952 [Sept 22, 1951; June 7, 1952], Nos. 22219/51 and 14414/52. Class 78 (1) A conveyer belt 10, Fig. 4, is driven by a pair of endless power-driven cables 12 which are bridged at intervals by cross carriers 21 that are secured to both cables, a series of these carriers receiving the working run of the belt 10 so that they bear some of its weight and transmit the drive thereto. Preferably the cross carriers 21 are of bow-shape forming a cradle in which the belt 10 adopts a trough-like cross-section. The return run of the belt 10 is held against the carriers 21 by means of rollers 25 so as to spread the work of transmitting the drive over both runs of the belt. As shown the cross carriers 21 incorporate belt engaging pads 26 which are pivoted at 27 beyond their centre of gravity so that the lower limbs 26B tend to swing downwards on the upper run but assume a flat relationship on the lower run of the belt. Each cross member 21 is associated with small carriages 12A, Fig. 4, secured to the cables 12 and each bearing a pair of wheels 28 riding on rails 29. A plurality of these driving assemblies may be provided for long lengths of conveyer run.
