Abstract
711,119. Suction cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. Sept. 1, 1952 [Sept. 1, 1951], No. 21901/52. Class 8 (1). Nozzle height adjustment to any one of a number of positions including the inoperative position in a handle propelled suction cleaner having a hinged converter port cover 35 is effected by a cam 40 and a follower pin 39 carried by a vertically movable wheel axle 30 and the cover 35 respectively or vice versa; the cam and its follower having a number of predetermined relative positions providing the inoperative nozzle position while the cover 35 is unlocked, and two or more operative positions whilst the cover is locked closed. The wheel axle 30 about which the cam 40 is journaled is cranked and is carried at the rear of the nozzle 11, which latter is urged upwardly by a torsion spring surrounding the axle 30, and the cam 40 has an open ended slot 41 providing seats 42, 43 for the pin 39 within the working range of the nozzle; the inoperative nozzle position being assumed on the pin 39 being allowed to slide free of the slot 41 and thereby unlocking the cover 35. A pointer 45 serves as a handle to adjust the setting of the cam 40 and in conjunction with scale markings on the cleaner casing enables the setting to be' observed. A stop 46 limits anticlockwise movement of the cam 40 and thus limits raising of the nozzle in its inoperative position.
