[Class 44] A door latch of the kind in which the inner handle can be actuated to render the outside handle ineffective has a spring-loaded bolt b, a lever d operable through the lever i by the inside handle on the spindle f to retract the bolt, and a lever at right angles to the plane of the lever d and operable by the outside handle to retract the bolt through the lever d. The lever d has three arms d<1>, d<2>, d3 of which d<1> co-operates with the bolt b, d<2>, with the operating lever i and d<3> with the operating lever j. The lever d may be moved in the opposite direction by the inside handle into a position (shown in dotted lines) in which the arm d<3> is held clear of the lever j rendering the outside handle ineffective. The lever d has notches u coacting with a spring-pressed detent t to retain it in the locked or releasable positions. The lever f is spring loaded and carries projections p, s for co-operation with the outside handle and the lever d respectively. The outside handle is of the type pivoted to move at right angles to the plane of the door.
