[Class 44] A vehicle door-fastener comprises a slidable bolt 3 having a guide-slot 4 and loaded by a spring 5, the bolt being provided with a shoulder 6 engaged by a projection 7 on a bolt-actuating' member 8 having pegs 9, 10 sliding in slots 11, 12, respectively. In the position shown, the bolt may be retracted either by turning the outside handle so as to effect engagement of a lever 17 with an abutment 16 on the member 8 or by turning the inside handle, whereby an arm 20 mounted on the handle-spindle 22 effects rotation of a pivoted arm 18 through a pin and slot connection, causing a projection 19 on the arm 18 to press against the pin 9. When the inside handle is turned in the opposite direction, an enlargement 23 on the arm 20 rocks the member 8 about the peg 9 the peg 10 now moving into a branch slot 13 so that the projection 7 is disengaged from the shoulder 6, thus rendering the outside handle ineffective. The slot 13 is bridged by a spring 14. A spring-loaded detent 25 engages notches 24 in the pivoted member 18 to prevent accidental movement from either of its operative positions.
