Abstract
746,224. Door latches. HALLAM, SLEIGH & CHESTON, Ltd. June 10, 1954 [Jan. 19, 1954], No. 1550/54. Class 44. A remote control device for a vehicle door lock comprises a pivoted part 1 connected, or adapted to be connected, to the lock mechanism and to an inside handle and arranged to be held in one or other of two positions by a spring-pressed ball 13 adapted to engage one or other of a pair of notches 5 or 6 in the pivoted part 1. In one position of the pivoted part the lock cannot be operated by an outside handle whereas, when the part is turned by the inside handle into the other position, the lock is freed and may be operated by either handle to open the door. As shown, the part 1 comprises a substantially triangular-shaped plate attached to a handle spindle 2 and mounted between a pair of plates 3, 4, the lower end of the part 1 being pivotally connected through a bar or link 8 to the lock mechanism. The spring-pressed ball 13 is freely movable in a pair of opposed vertical grooves 14, 15 formed on the plates 3, 4. A stop may be fitted at 16 to prevent an outside handle being rendered inoperative when the device is fitted to the driver's door of a vehicle.
