Abstract

710,907. Water-extraction in paper-making machines. MAZER, J. Feb. 26, 1952 [Feb. 28, 1951], No. 5001/52. Class 96 A pipe 30 discharges steam against the walls 31 of an enclosure 24. the steam being deflected thereby and passing into and through, the pulp web 15 on the wire-cloth of a paper-making machine above a suction box 25 within which may be a pipe 35 spraying the walls &c. of the box to condense the steam and increase the suction. The width of the enclosure 24 is less than that of the effective suction area, so that air drawn at the sides aots as an air-seal for the steam. The appliance increases the amount of water-extraction. The invention is applicable to suction couch rolls &c.
