Abstract
565,575. Suction couch rolls and presses of paper - making machines. BELOIT IRON WORKS. Jan. 5, 1943, Nos. 191 and 192. Convention dates, May 13, 1942, and June 8, 1942. [Class 96] One or more suction rolls 115, 140, at the couch end of a Fourdrinier paper-making machine, and which may be couch rolls, or lower rolls of suction presses &c., contact the wire-cloth 111 only up to the end of the suction compartment opening 123, 143. Suction in the holes of the roll shell is thus not released and water in the holes is retained until the wire 111 has left the roll so that when the water is thrown off it does not impinge on the wire to become re-absorbed by the web W, but, as illustrated, is caught by the casing A, B and drained at 147, 148. Such suction rolls may replace some of the usual suction boxes. In some forms, the wire-cloth is trained about a couch roll, the web W being couched at the end of the suction zone.
