709,894. Cylinders. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Oct. 29, 1952 [Nov. 10, 1951], No. 27139/52. Class 7(2) Tightening of bolts or studs 36, Fig. 1, to draw together two semi-circular clamp elements 38 acts through wedging surfaces 46, 48 both to seat the cylinder 18 down on the crankcase 6 and, as through a gasketed cylinder shoulder 56 engaging a liner 54, to stress a dished annular spring 64 acting between the crankcase and a ledge 62 on the liner. In Fig. 4, a flat annular spring 84 is used and relative rotation of the liner, cylinder and crankcase prevented by a dowel 70.
