Abstract
709,866. Liquid-fuel burners. KELLY, H. W. July 1, 1952 [July 21, 1951], No. 16524/52. Class 75 (1) A pot type oil burner has an air tube 31 of large cross-section centrally disposed in the burner body 15 and extending upwardly from an opening in an otherwise imperforated bottom 16 of the burner body through a large central opening in a pilot ring 25, arranged above air inlet openings 28 in and attached to the burner body side walls 17, to a point just below air inlet openings 30 adjacent and around the periphery at the upper edge of the side walls 17; the tube 31 discharges pre-heated air from its upper end and insperates primary, secondary and tertiary air respectively through the openings 28, 29 and 30. The burner 10 rests on an air duct 34 which abuts a wall 11a of a combustion chamber 11 at.one end and which is slightly spaced from a wall at the other end to leave a chamber 41. The duct is divided into three channels 37, 38 and 39 by a pair of angles 36; the central channel 37 having an opening 42 which communicates with the tube 31. Air is forced through a duct 43 around the burner 10 some air passing through openings 28, 29 and 30 in the burner walls 17 and the balance through the chamber 41 and channel 37 to the tube 31. In an alternative arrangement shown in Fig. 7, a natural air draught passes through openings 44, 44a in the wall 11a around the burner 10 and also through an opening 11b also in the wall 11a to channels 38, 39 to the other side of the burner 10 and through the centre channel 37 to the tube 31. The tube 31 may be provided with one or more helical baffles 33. The pilot ring 25 may be upwardly inclined. The uppermost air inlet holes 30 are closely spaced in rows level with the upper end of the tube 31.
