709,692. Sockets; milling. CLARKSON, F. H Dec. 19, 1952, No. 32184/52. Class 83 (3) Means for fixing a milling cutter or like rotary tool to a shank 2, as described in Specification 680,877 and comprising a plug 5 on which the cutter 1 is screwed, a bore 4 in the shank for receiving the plug and a transverse wedge 12 which normally restrains the plug from outward movement but can be shifted, by a screw 18 and against the action of a spring 19, to allow limited outward movement of the plug to disengage the cutter from the face 8 of the shank so that it may be unscrewed, is modified by the provision of a bearing member 17 having an inclined surface 16 that supports the wedge 12 over its full length and prevents the edge portions of the bore 4 from digging into it. The plug 5 has dogs 10 engaging recesses 11 in the shank to provide a driving connection.
