Abstract

The invention comprises vat dyes of the formula <FORM:0707576/IV(c)/1> where R is a hydrogenated radical of the benzene series. They are made from 4(21-carboxy-31-chlorophenyl) -amino-1-aminoanthraquinone or its substitution products or functional derivatives, which may be in the form of their 2-sulphonic acids, by treating so as to produce the acridone ring and by acylating the 1-amino group, before or after acylization, so as to introduce a hydroaroyl group. The products dye cellulosic fibres grey shades. In examples, the product of the above formula in which R is hexahydrophenyl is obtained by (1) reacting hexahydrobenzoyl chloride with the acridone obtained from 1-amino-4-bromoanthraquinone-2-sulphonic acid and 6-chloro-2-aminobenzoic acid or (2) condensing 4-amino-1-hexahydrobenzoylaminoanthraquinone with 2-bromo-6-chlorobenzoic acid methyl ester and ringclosing the product in a hydrosulphite vat.
