Abstract

The oxidation products of the bodies described as "ketonic perylenes" in Specification 193,431 are converted into other dyestuffs by treatment with the b -chlorethylester of p-toluene sulphonic acid (Specification 193,618). In an example the oxidation product of dibenzanthrone is heated with soda ash and the ester in nitrobenzene solution; the product dyes cotton in fast blue shades from a blue hydrosulphite vat.
