701,560. Centrifugal compressors. CENTRAX POWER UNITS, Ltd., and BARR, R. H. H. March 10, 1950, No. 3256/52. Divided out of 701,503. Class 110 (1) In a centrifugal compressor the fluid is discharged by the impeller 1 into a vaneless annular diffuser 3, in which substantial diffusion occurs while its flow direction has no axial component, and then passes by way of a bend of about 90 degrees into a secondary diffuser comprising guide vanes 50. The fluid then enters a volute 4. The outer diameter of the vaneless diffuser 3 may be 1¢ to 2 times the peripheral diameter of the impeller.
