Abstract
1,043,168. Boundary layer control in compressors. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. June 27, 1963 [June 29, 1962], No. 25682/63. Heading F2R. Openings are provided in the walls of a diffuser section of a turbo-compressor and suction is applied to them to prevent separation of the boundary layer. Annular slots 14, 15 may be provided in the diffuser walls 56 (Fig. 2, not shown), connected, through control valves 31, to the impeller inlet in the region of guide blades 30 (Fig. 3, not shown) and to the impeller outlet. The slots, i.e. the direction of flow through them, may be inclined at 45 degrees to the diffuser axis, and they may be replaced by two annular rows of slots (Fig. 6, not shown). The slots may be in diffuser blades of a radial flow compressor (Figs. 9 and 10, not shown), and in the case of an axial flow compressor, additional slots may be located between stages.
