Abstract
698,521. Dynamo - electric machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 1, 1952 [July 25, 1951], No. 17640/51. Class 35. Converting electric energy into motion of fluids by the action of magnetic fields.-A polyphase electromagnetic pump has windings 8 spread out in slots in radial core packs 7 surrounding the liquid duct 1, the winding being graded so that the flux density increases gradually from zero or a low value at each end of the pump to a maximum or constant value at the centre part of the pump. The inner wall 2 of the duct is supported inside the outer wall 1 by radial vanes 4, and contains radial packets of laminations 5 for completing the flux path. The flat windings 8 in the slots in the outer core are arranged so that the flux is proportional to sin<SP>2</SP>#,# being equal to zero at the end A of the pump and #/2 at B, the end of the graded portion.
