Abstract
723,570. Winding layouts for dynamo-electric machines. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. May 22, 1953 [May 23, 1952], No. 13141/52. Class 35. Converting electric energy into motion of fluids by the action of magnetic fields; motors and generators with longitudinally movable members.-In order to eliminate flux pulsations, a linear induction motor, which may be used as an actuator or a conducting liquid pump, comprises a linear core transversely slotted to form 2n+1 poles and is wound with a double-layer distributed polyphase winding of 2n poles spread over the whole of the slots. The invention is shown for a four-pole machine having a winding 5 with six slots per pole, the coils being short-chorded by one slot-pitch. When used as a pump, the device may comprise two flat cores, one or both being slotted and wound, with a flat nickel-chromium steel tube between them to receive the transverse travelling flux. Alternatively, the cores may be radial, one inside the other, with an annular tube between them receiving radial flux travelling in an axial direction. Specification 654,881 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
