Abstract
628,018. Dynamo-electric machines. ALLEN, F. J. March 12, 1947, No. 6929. [Class 35] A synchronous machine comprises a solid axially magnetized or magnetizable rotor and a cylindrical stator with laminµ extending axially and disposed between pole-pieces at the ends of the rotor. As shown in Fig. 1, the armature core 14 of coiled strip surrounds the stationary exciting coil 13 for the axially magnetized rotor 10 and demagnetizing coils 18 are provided to protect the bearings. With windings as in the upper part of the figure, the rotor would have two polar projections 12 at one end and two aligned projections of opposite polarity at the other end of the armature, while for coils as in the lower half of the figure two polar projections would be provided at each end and displaced 90‹ from those at the other end. An alternative core construction is shown in Fig. 3, the armature slots not extending to the end faces of the core which is formed in two parts, one part unslotted to form one end portion.
