697,621. Generating combustion products under pressure. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 7, 1951 [Sept. 12, 1950], No. 2240/50. Class 51(i) In an apparatus for generating combustion products under pressure by the burning of a cartridge 20, the gases passing through a perforated trap 2 and then through a pressure-reducing nozzle 3 to the point of use, a safety bursting disc 15 and a spring-loaded relief valve 11 are provided, the latter being set at a pressure less than that at which the bursting disc fails but greater than a predetermined working pressure in the combustion chamber. The safety bursting disc and the relief valve may be fixed either upstream or downstream of the perforated trap. The relief valve comprises a spring- loaded ball 9, the compression of the spring being adjusted by means of the screw 13. The cartridge firing elements may be electric or percussion type as shown in the Figure. The apparatus is intended for use in conjunction with an engine starter motor of the reciprocating piston type.
