Abstract
806,969. Supplying liquid fuel to burners. AUTOCALOR A. B. March 13, 1957 [March 17, 1956], No. 8279/57. Classes 75(1) and 75(3). In an oil heating plant with a high pressure burner, in which an oil pump 1 and a fan 6 for combustion air are driven by a direct current motor of the rotary converter type connected to a storage battery, the generated alternating current being transformed into high voltage alternating current in a transformer 10 feeding a spark gap 13 for igniting the fuel, a cylinder 16 is connected to the pressure side of the fuel pump and has a piston 18 slidable therein against a spring 19 and displaced by oil entering the cylinder, the movement of the piston opening a connection between the pressure side of the pump and the burner 4 only after the motor 9 has reached a speed sufficient to produce a spark at the spark gap. The piston may uncover a port 17 connecting the cylinder with the burner 12 or may control a valve in the feed pipe to the burner. A by-pass 14 controlled by a spring pressed valve 15 connects the pipe 3a from the pump 1 to the cylinder 16 with the supply pipe 2 to the pump when the difference in pressure between the two sides of the pump exceeds a predetermined value. A second by-pass 20 having a narrow passage 21 which may be adjustable is provided to enable oil to return from the cylinder 16 to the supply pipe 2 when the pump is stopped. A rod 18a on the piston is connected by a [crank elbow 24 with a damper 22 in the air inlet pipe so as to open this when the piston is displaced.
