Abstract
741,253. Free piston gas generators. SCHMIDT, P. July 9, 1953, No. 19018/53. Class 7(1) [Also in Group XXVI] A free - piston engine 1 with air inlet valves. 3 exhausts to a jet pipe 6 with air inlet valves 5. The outlet to the pipe is controlled by spring-loaded valves 8. The piston 2 engages a guide-rod 16 by narrow annular surfaces 18, 19. The engine cylinder can move axially against the loading of a spring 13. The engine and jet pipe are enclosed in a shell 28. When moving to the left the piston supplies compressed air to a turbine 26 drawing a compression 27 and to a line 11 to open the fuel valve 10. Ignition is effected by a spark plug 14 with a contact adapted to engage a fixed contact 15 when the engine cylinder moves to the left. When the valves 8 open they compress the air in the valve chambers 9 which are provided with relief valves 22.
