Abstract
691,914. Trueing crank-shafts. WORTHY, T. W. May 12, 1950, No. 85/50. Class 83 (iii). A mounting and centring device for turning and grinding crank-shafts in lathes comprises a centring block A, provided with a split lower half, which is fitted over the main crank-shaft journal J behind the fly-wheel or like flange X. A similar centring block A<SP>1</SP>, but without the split portion, is slipped over the main journal at the other end of the crank-shaft. Both centring blocks are provided with a vertical slot E in which the stem of a T-shaped centre-piece is adjustable by means of a screw P. The stems are provided with centre-holes C<SP>1</SP> and a locknut F while the opposite ends of the centre-pieces are provided with a series of spaced centre holes C. These holes are used to set the device up between centres in a lathe with a driver for rotating the assembly from a face-plate in the usual manner. To align the crank-shaft in the centring blocks, use is made of a bar 13 which is temporarily clamped to the blocks and serves as a setting plane for a gauge H which is provided with a cut-away inverted V and ensures the crank-pin engaged by it being in the top dead-centre position.
