690,896. Dropping explosive and other loads from aircraft. SAUNDERS-ROE, Ltd., and TELFORD, R. Feb. 7, 1952 [Feb. 20, 1951[, No. 4102/51. Class 9(ii) Apparatus for dropping loads from aircraft is provided in which the ejector comprises a tubular casing 10 carrying a transverse pin 11 engaging a hook pivoted on a ring 13 at the end of a load-carrying line. The ring 13 is received in a notch 15 in the casing and a spring 16 presses the hook 12 against the pin 11. A striker 17 connected to the aircraft extends into the casing and has a pin-andslot connection 20, 19 therewith, while springs 21 extending between the pin 11 and a pin 22 on the striker tend to pull the striker into the casing. The striker is held by a cocking lever 23 engaging a catch 25. On dropping a load, the pull on the line draws the casing downwardly, thus tensioning the springs 21 and bring- ing the lever 23 against a cam surface 26 which pushes the lever clear of the catch 25. The casing descends until the pin 20 reaches the bottom of the slot 19, when the tension in the line pulls out the release pin for the load. The springs then pull the casing upwardly relative to the striker 17 which pushes the hook 12 clear of the pin 11 against the action of the spring 16 so that the hook with the attached line drop from the aircraft.
