Abstract
690,281. Discharge lamps. NEOGRAM, Ltd. Dec. 29, 1950 [Jan. 17, 1950; Sept. 26, 1950], Nos. 1234/50 and 23597/50. Class 39(i). [Also in Group XVIII] A discharge tube 26 used in a sign (see Group XVIII) is excited by a high frequency field through its thickness between either a non- opaque plate-like electrode in front of the tube and through which it is seen or a transparent conducting coating on its front surface and a second electrode at the rear of the tube. The tube consists either of glass tubing 31 bent to the required shape and with the second electrode formed of a conducting coating 32 on the rear half of its surface or of two channel shaped sections fixed together by welding or adhesive. The sections may be made of glass or plastic material with a reflecting conducting coating on the outside face of the bottom half or the bottom half may be of metal and the top half glass or plastic. The tubes may be mounted in a carrier 33 having magnets 36 or rubber suckers by which it may be positioned. Gettering material may be positioned in a part of the tube which is concealed by bending it through 180 degrees.
