Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce magnetic field of a direction which intersects the discharge route, and thereby prevent the generation of discolored parts, by providing magnetic-field generation devices having a given width on the outer surface of the tube from each end of the tube toward the center of that. CONSTITUTION:A transparent conductive film 2 and a fluorescent film 3 are formed over the inner wall of a glass tube 1, and a discharge space 4 is charged with a given amount of mercury or an inert gas. Magnetic-field generating devices 6 are provided on the outer surface of a glass tube 1 from each end of the tube 1 toward the center of that. The total length of the devices 6 should be not less than one fourth of the entire length of the tube 1.
