Abstract

684,823. Valves. SUSSMEYER, L. June 27, 1951 [June 27, 1950], No. 15307/51. Class 135. A valve for controlling the flow of liquid from a vacuum vessel C to an outlet port 14 leading to a gastight sample collecting receptacle 17 comprises a plunger member consisting of pistons 12, 13 of differing diameters connected by a conical surface 11 and closely fitting in a similarly shaped casing 1 so that, when the valve is closed, any liquid in the casing is returned to vessel C. Receptacle 17 is held up against a seal 16 surrounding the outlet 15 by a spring-urged plate 18, the latter being released by pulling down a lever 19 which carries the plate. The valve is actuated by rotating its spindle which is screwed and passes through a nut 5 carried on a yoke projecting from the casing 1. The spindle passes into the casing through packing 7.
