Abstract
677,047. Motor-vehicle steering-gear. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. Oct. 31, 1950 [Oct. 31, 1949], No. 26540/50. Class 79(v) In a motor vehicle, the steering gear and lower part cf the steering column spindle on the one hand and the steering wheel together with the upper part of the steering column spindle on the other hand are mounted on relatively movable parts of the vehicle, the upper part of the spindle being mounted unyieldingly laterally, the spindle being elastic in bending and torsion. As shown, the steering box l and shaft n are carried bv the transverse frame member k, whilst the upper end g of the steering column is mounted unyieldingly on the instrument panel b through the intermediary of thrust races e and f preloaded by a spring i. The intermediate portion g of the steering column is capable of bending. A rubber coupling o may also be provided. The outer casing d is connected rigidly to the instrument panel b and toe-board c.
