Abstract
674,815. Centrifugal pumps. SCHULZ, W. Dec. 8,1950 [May 15, 1950], No. 30126/50. Class 110(i) A centrifugal pump is primed by an air ejector 8 arranged on the discharge side of the pump sufficiently close to the impeller 1 that the water for its operation is supplied by the impelling effect of the ends of the impeller blades, the water after passing through the ejector returning, as shown by arrow 22, to the discharge chamber 5. The ejector extracts air from the pump inlet through a pipe (not shown), which is connected at 14 to an annular groove 11. On leaving the ejector the air, as shown by arrow 20, collects below the closed discharge valve 7 and is withdrawn at 21. The pump inlet is upcast so as to maintain a water level 15 which covers the ejector. In a multi-stage pump, the priming arrangement may be applied to one stage only.
