667,176. Motor vehicle underframes. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Jan. 24, 1949, No. 1886/49. Class 79(iv) [Also in Group XXXII] An underframe structure suitable for mounting on the chassis to carry the body comprises a framework 14, 15, 16, 17 having a number of transverse members 3 of inverted L-section, one or more longitudinal members 9, 9A within the framework and which pass through the vertical portions of the transverse members 3 and are joined thereto by angle brackets, the horizontal portions of the transverse members serving as a support for the body floor. Alternatively, the transverse members 3 of inverted L-shape may be built up from four separate vertical plates in alignment, along the top edges of which is riveted an angle member 8, the horizontal web of the angle member serving as a support for the body.
