Abstract

665,278. Filter wads for cigarettes. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Dec. 8, 1949 [Dec. 10, 1948], No. 32020//48. Class 130. [Also in Groups V, VIII and XXVIII] A cigarette filter tip comprises a rod of aligned crinkled cellulose acetate fibres bonded together by a film of water soluble cellulose derivative. The rod is formed by dry spinning a solution of cellulose acetate in acetone through a jet having a plurality of holes of 0.055 millimetre diameter to produce fibres having fifteen crinkles per inch and of 16. denier. The fibres are corded and the sliver soaked in an aqueous solution of methyl cellulose 'and whilst wet drawn through three dies of successively smaller diameter to form a rod which after drying to effect bonding of the fibres is cut into appropriate lengths.
