Abstract

664,988. Couplings for vehicles. BILLING-. TON, H. E., and BIRD, H. A. April 4, 1950 [Sept. 14, 1949], No. 23656/49. Class 103(v) [Also in Group XXV] A releasable coupling, of the kind comprising a coupling head adapted to be mounted on one vehicle and ball adapted to be secured to another vehicle, the coupling head having a recess on its underside forming a ball seat and having a guide for a spring- l o a d e d ball-retaining slide, is' characterized in that the ball retaining slide is provided with an axially disposed keyway within which engages a projection mounted on the guide whereby the slide is prevented from rotating about its axis. As shown in the Figure, an inclined recess 20 in a coupling head 19 receives a ball 17, the ball being retained by a spring leaded slide 26 slideable in a guide 24, by means of a handle 37, to release the coupling. Rotation of the slide 26 is prevented by a key way 33 therein which engages a projection 34 of a washer 35 which is locked in a spring housing 30 by a screwed disc.
